Outstanding Junior:  Cole Johnson

Cole is from Breese, Illinois.  Currently he is devoting all his time to his being a full-time student.  His plans after graduation include gaining work experience in order to eventually teach in the field of engineering.

Outstanding Senior:  Ollie Langhorst.

Ollie is from St. Louis, Missouri.  He is focused on gaining employment with a company that has a strong record of safety, quality, growth, and ethical corporate behavior preferably specializing in robotics/automation.  Given his proclivity towards leadership, he can see himself moving towards a management position.

Outstanding Graduate Student:  Siyaun Xing

Siyaun is from Chengdu, China.  He is working on his master’s thesis about periodic motions in nonlinear dynamics as well as an industry project about the design of resonant fatigue testing platform.  After completing his master’s degree, Siyuan plans to work on his Ph.D. degree.

Outstanding Teacher:  Dr. Serdar Celik                                                                  

Dr. Celik is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.  He has several years of experience in air-conditioning and refrigeration industries before his career at SIUE.  His research here at SIUE focuses on building energy efficiency, solar energy, green roofs and shale gas.  Dr. Celik is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Young Professionals in Energy, and the Illinois Solar Energy Association.

Outstanding Alumnus:  Ryan Freeman

Since graduation Mr. Freeman has worked in a variety of roles in the construction industry.  He worked his way up through the project management ranks and transitioned into a sales and business development role where he lead over $600 million in successful sales proposals.  He now leads the Commercial Business Unit for McCarthy Building Companies, a national construction firm, responsible for projects throughout the region including the Gateway Arch expansion and renovation, the Washington University East Campus master plan and the O’Fallon, Missouri justice center.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Associated General Contractors of Missouri and the Family Resources Center.  He and his wife Jocelyn have three children and live in Edwardsville.
