Support for Student Projects: $1 million

Collegiate student design competitions are invaluable resources in which students can relate classroom learning to practical applications they may experience in their future careers. By working in student design teams, students gain not only relevant technical knowledge, but also communication, team work and leadership skills.

There are more than 10 student design teams within the School of Engineering. Each year, student design teams dedicated hundreds of days preparing for and taking part in various competitions such as:

• Mini-baja off-road vehicle
• Solar car
• Formula race car
• Various robotics projects
• Steel bridge
• Concrete canoe
• Various design/build projects

Although the students have been working with limited resources, they have accomplished outstanding results. The excellence of our student projects has been a catalyst to attract many able students to the School of Engineering.

The School hopes to enable our students with even more potential to compete on national and international levels. Skills gained while participating in student team projects further empower our students to succeed in their careers. These are skills that cannot be taught in the classroom; they are acquired through hands-on project experience.
