Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Engineering. As the chief administrative, academic, and fiscal officer of the School, the Dean is expected to enhance academic excellence, promote diversity and inclusion, encourage faculty scholarship, and build on the School’s successes. Additionally, the Dean will perform administrative functions that include: recruitment/retention of faculty, personnel and student issues, facilities and equipment, and fundraising and public relations. The person in this position must direct the continuing development and implementation of the curriculum and provide support for the research and scholarly activities of the School as well as actively collaborate with professional organizations and industry. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
Candidates must have an earned doctorate in one of the areas represented by the School or in a closely related field with sufficient accomplishments for appointment as a tenured professor in a department of the School. Significant administrative experience in academia or industry, evidence of leadership and scholarly accomplishments, demonstrated qualities of honesty and integrity, a commitment to diversity and excellent communication skills are required.
U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges of 2016 lists SIUE among the best Regional Universities Midwest for the 12th consecutive year. The University is 10th overall among public universities in that category. For the second consecutive year, SIUE is in Washington Monthly’s Top 40 for master’s universities in the nation. The 2,660-acre, park-like campus, located in the eastern metropolitan St. Louis area, includes a University Park established for economic development and is supplemented by campuses in East St. Louis and Alton. The University is culturally diverse and has a student body of over 14,000. SIUE is also fully certified at the Division I level by the NCAA.
The School of Engineering offers excellent, innovative undergraduate programs in civil, computer, electrical, industrial, mechanical, as well as construction and computer science. All undergraduate engineering programs are ABET accredited. A new program in mechatronics and robotics engineering will seek ABET accreditation. Master’s degree programs are offered in civil, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering, and in computer science. The School of Engineering also offers a cooperative doctoral program with SIU-Carbondale, has vibrant and growing research programs in all departments, and currently administers the externally funded Environmental Resources Training Center. There are over 50 full-time faculty and approximately 1,450 undergraduate and 250 graduate students.
