Educational Preparation

The student entering the program can come from a variety of backgrounds, including directly from high school, from related academic areas, or from work in the construction industry. The high school background should include:

  • 4 years high school mathematics, including college algebra and trigonometry
  • 1 year high school physics or chemistry
  • 4 years high school English

Job experience in construction is a valuable asset to a student entering the curriculum from the work force. The basic curriculum can be modified to allow students to make up deficiencies in any section of the academic areas listed above. This will, of course, increase the academic course requirements and lengthen the program. The person best suited to this curriculum should have these qualities enhanced by his/her education:

  • ability to work with all types of people
  • discipline to think and reason logically technical ability to visualize and solve practical construction problems
  • managerial knowledge to make sound decisions and implement them on a prudent economic basis ability to communicate decisions clearly and concisely
  • professional stature to provide dynamic leadership in the construction industry and the community
