We are a dedicated group of students who want to build upon the theories learned from traditional education by forming a team to plan, design, fund, build, test, and race an off-road vehicle. We plan on taking the team from conception to the 2008 Baja SAE Midwest Regional Title. Even though the group is in its infancy, we plan on making the competition part of engineering tradition at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Baja SAE is an off-road vehicle design competition. The SAE is an organization of automakers dedicated to advancing automotive engineering worldwide. Over the course of one year each team creates a reduced-scale off-road (Mini Baja) vehicle to be tested against schools throughout America but also against schools from other countries.
The SAE Mini Baja is held annually throughout the United States and internationally. The competition is comprised of three regional competitions in different locations each year. We will be attending the Midwest competition held in Rochester, New York, where 140 university teams assemble to compete in a variety of static and dynamic events. Static events include Design, Design Report, Cost, Cost Report, and Presentation. Dynamic events include Acceleration, Traction, Maneuverability, Rock Crawl, Mud Bog, and Endurance. The competition is held under the direction of major supporters such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, Briggs & Stratton, and Timken and gains media attention at the national level.
