Licensed Practical Nurse

Job Description/Responsibilities
Under direction of healthcare providers and nursing staff, perform personal care and nursing procedures applying elementary nursing principles below those requiring full professional training as well as a registered nurse.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

Performing clerical duties
Maintaining patient files, medical records, treatment records and lab results; completing patient charts as prescribed by healthcare provider.  Maintaining records of monetary charges to patients.  Compiling statistical reports from records and data.  Sending out questionnaires, cpmpleteing forms and form letters to be sent out.  Composing answers to routine request for patient information from medical record.

Performing direct patient care tasks
Performing diagnostic procedures by identifying or recording symptoms, vital signs, specimens for lab results, height & weight, scheduling additional procedures, tests, surgeries, and hospital admissions and obtaining appropriate insurance authorization.

Performing checks and balances
Receives new supplies from source, checks supplies delivered against request.  Checks for shortages or breakage and records both.  Placing items in proper storage location, stocks exam rooms.  Obtaining re-authorization and referrals.  Responsibility for coding, billing and collections.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Graduation from an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
  2. Eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.

Additional Skills and Knowledge Desired by Unit

  1. Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  2. Knowledge of basic first aid principles, methods, and techniques.
  3. Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques.
  4. Knowledge of inventory procedures.
  5. Knowledge of developing medical records and chart.
  6. Skill in preparing case histories, reports, and records accurately and according to standard formulas.
  7. Ability to make decisions based on urgency of the situation and accordance with work procedures and hospital/clinic policies.
  8. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  9. Willingness to and skill in, dealing effectively with patients, staff and others inside or outside the clinic.
  10. Knowledge of billing, coding and collections.

Salary
$2,629 per month
