Job Description
The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Upper-Class Communities is a full-time staff member responsible for administering a residential program area of 62 apartments buildings (1,500 students) and one upper-class residence hall (500 students). This position includes educational, supervisory, and administrative functions to provide a residential environment reflective of the University’s mission and values and the Departments’ educational priority and learning outcomes. The position supervises the implementation of the residential curriculum for Cougar Village and Evergreen Hall and contributes to the vision and direction of the residence life program. The Assistant Director of Residence Life for Upper-Class Communities supervises 1 Chief Clerk, 3 master’s level, live-in Community Directors, and indirectly supervises 3 live-in Assistant Community Directors (graduate assistants), 44 undergraduate Resident Assistants, 20-30 undergraduate Desk Managers, and 5 undergraduate Family Resource Center Student Assistants.

Qualifications Required

  • This position requires a Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or related field
  • Two years, post-master’s experience working with student housing
  • Supervisory ability
  • Strong working knowledge of student development theory and student learning theory
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with and effectively counsel students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions quickly and independently 

Terms of Appointment
Professional, non-bargaining, term beginning January 5, 2015, twelve month appointment with possibility of renewal.
