Job Description
The Marketing Specialist-Media Relations position works as a member of the SIUE media relations team, creating media-specific content, responding to media inquiries and proactively pitching to support the advancement of SIUE’s reputation. This position manages multiple client relationships and assists in developing overall communication strategy for assigned accounts at the School/Major Unit level or audience constituency level. S/he identifies and implements tactics that help achieve client objectives, and develops assigned client communication strategies, key messages and content for marketing collateral, advertising, radio, TV, billboard and PowerPoint. S/he ensures effective communication of SIUE information and strategies, and works in collaboration with assigned clients, College, Schools, and Major Units to develop the content, framework, and text for area-specific Web pages. This position also oversees the development and production of video content for news and promotional uses, and creates concepts, develops scripts, conducts interviews and collaborates with videographer in post-production to communicate key messages and achieve client and institutional marketing goals.  The Marketing Specialist-Media Relations position may be assigned additional tasks in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Qualifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field required. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Minimum of three to five years experience in promotional writing, technical communications, or journalism preferred. Advanced proficiency in media distribution platforms. Experience in interviewing and video production for news or promotional purposes. Ability to communicate with multiple departments to collect and disseminate information effectively required. Motivated team player with outstanding organization and time management skills required.

Must have demonstrated success in:

  • Prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Development and maintenance of schedules and workflow required.
  • Advanced internet technologies, information design and web management concepts.
  • Content and key message development for a variety of target audiences, including media.

Must be highly proficient in media writing, with an extensive knowledge of AP Style and familiarity with common and emerging media relations tools and platforms. 

Terms of Appointment
Professional, non-bargaining, full-time, continuing position.
