Job Description
The Director of Marketing reports to the Executive Director for Marketing & Communications and provides strategic and tactical counsel on matters involving the representation of the University to local, national and international interests and internal constituents. The Director contributes to an enterprise function that is responsible for identifying and addressing the strategic communications and integrated marketing needs of SIUE.

The Director of Marketing is responsible for:

  • Contributing to strategies for developing, maintaining and building SIUE’s reputation among each constituency group, including prospective and current students and parents, alumni and donors, current and prospective employees, and the community; executing strategies
  • Assisting in increasing regional, national and international awareness of and interest in SIUE, its programs, its distinguished faculty and research, beautiful campus and facilities, evolving athletics programs and affordable excellence through appropriate channels
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans for the Schools/College and administrative units to support institutional strategic goals and objectives
  • Strategic use of market research and data-driven analysis to evaluate and improve the SIUE brand platform and messaging to achieve institutional goals (including recruitment and advancement) and foresee market trends in order to preserve the SIUE brand in a competitive higher education environment
  • Assisting in planning and allocating institutional resources for strategic communications and integrated marketing initiatives
  • Providing coaching, mentoring and professional development to the integrated marketing team at institutional and unit levels, providing both tactical services and a team approach emphasizing strategic communication planning and client service; oversee the tactical execution teams providing marketing and creative support to University clients
  • Contribute to brand platform and message development and strategy; web strategy and analytics; content generation and distribution; publication production and distribution; social media monitoring and engagement; recruitment materials and various lead generation tools; advertising placement and production; SEO/SEM efforts; market research
  • Working cooperatively with Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to create overall brand and marketing strategy
  • Creating and coordinating the production of case statements, publications and related materials in support of the philanthropic advancement program of the University 

Qualifications
Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in marketing and communications, with expertise in a higher education environment preferred.  Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and advanced degree in a related field. 

Requirements also include:

  • Demonstrated excellence leading innovation in the development and use of digital communications and marketing technologies including social and emerging media
  • A track record of successfully leading a full-service marketing team that employs talented and client-oriented professional staff
  • Experience planning and managing budgets and resources
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting and translating a strategic vision into an operational model
  • Ability as a persuasive communicator, with proficiency in communicating effectively with diverse audiences, through writing and speaking
