Description of Department
Internal Auditing is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value and improve an organization’s operations. It helps an organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.  Internal Audit provides audit services to the University-Wide community including Carbondale, Edwardsville, Springfield, Alton, and East St. Louis. Internal Audit provides reasonable assurance that University operations are run effectively and efficiently by providing an independent, impartial and objective review of administrative functions and insuring compliance with University policies and procedures as well as applicable statutory requirements. In addition, the Office may evaluate the implementation of operational and control improvements. The overall mission of the Office is to add value to University operations and assist the University in achieving its goals and objectives.

Job Description/Responsibilities
The primary function of the Internal Auditor Assistant Manager is to engage in the design and implementation of routine and complex IT audits, while receiving limited on-site supervision. Specifically, this position plans and performs risk-based audits to evaluate the security, integrity and regulatory compliance of the administrative, academic and associated Information Systems of the University.  This position plans and conducts risk and control assessments of the University’s information technology governance structure; assists in developing the annual audit plan; perform audits of system applications and network infrastructure; and communicates results to management. The overall objective of the position is to assist all members of management in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by furnishing them with the objective analysis, appraisals, observations, recommendations, and pertinent comments/conclusions concerning the activities reviewed.  This position provides specialized technical skills and assistance in the area of information systems/technology during all phases of the audit- planning, fieldwork, and wrap-up/reporting.  The position is responsible for IT audits of the system, including Carbondale, Edwardsville, Springfield, Alton and East St. Louis campuses, with some travel to each campus required.  This position can be located in either Edwardsville or Carbondale.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or closely related field.
  • Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing duties comparable to those listed for the Internal Auditor Associate.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting audits within the field of information technology.
  • Possession of (or active progression towards attainment of) a Certified Information Systems Auditor or Certified Systems Security Professional Certificate. 

Additional Knowledge and Skills Preferred by Hiring Unit
The individual should have exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data.  In addition, the individual must possess the ability to learn and detect noncompliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.  The ability to effectively work with administrators, faculty, and staff is essential, as well as possessing good customer service techniques.
