Network Engineer IV

Job Description/Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to support and maintain the SIUE network infrastructure.  Responsibilities include research and implementation of new technologies, configuration standards, and ongoing operations.  Specific technologies include switched Ethernet, Internet routers, firewalls, WiFi access points / controllers, DNS/DHCP, and miscellaneous support systems. 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Any one or any combination of the following that totals three academic years:
    (a) college/vocational/technical training that included six hours in network infrastructure/architecture
    (b) work experience relating to network infrastructure/architecture, remote access systems, Internet connectivity and support services
      Two additional years of work experience relating to network 
      infrastructure/architecture, remote access systems, and Internet
      connectivity and support services
      Master’s degree in related technical field or general managerial field
      Four additional years of work experience relating to network
      infrastructure/architecture, remote access systems, and Internet 
      connectivity and support services 

Additional Knowledge and Skills Preferred

  • Knowledge of Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • In-depth understanding of network technologies including Ethernet, TCP/IP, WiFi, and the systems used to implement them
  • Ability to resolve trouble tickers and work orders in a timely manner without assistance while continuing progress independent projects.  Balance self-completion vs. reassignment to technician.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of all ITS policies and procedures, and the ability to apply them in practice on a daily basis
  • Ability to research features and bugs, test for intended operation, and document configuration standards to be used by other engineers and technicians

$5,417 per month
