Job Description
The primary responsibilities of the Counselor are to:

  • Plan, schedule, and implement effective individual and group counseling sessions to include educational, career, personal, and academic areas to all program participants to total five (5) individual sessions each and five (5) group sessions of which paperwork is maintained and submitted to document each, as well as follow up activities.
  • Administer program assessment instruments as indicated in the proposal to all participants of which results are to be accurately and completely tallied, recorded, and submitted for documentation in keeping with program objective or assessment.
  • Maintain GPA, credit checks, and overall academic performance records on all program participants with regular checks with their home school, and submit documentation of same for program records in keeping with program objectives on academic achievement.
  • Assist program participants with completion of post-secondary education programs, applications for entry, financial aid material, and scholarship information and submit report of placement by the end of each program year in keeping with program objective or post-secondary placement.
  • Work to achieve program follow-up objective by developing, implementing, and submitting results of follow-up studies on all program graduates through completion of post-secondary education completion.
  • Assist with monitoring, coordinating, and implementing the summer component in which record of students’ performance and grades (transcripts) is developed.

The Counselor may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department’s mission and goals.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education Counseling, Social Work, or Student Personnel or closely related field
  • Two (2) years experience in working with youth from low-income or disadvantaged background is preferred
  • Sensitivity in working with minority and disadvantaged students is preferred
  • Computer knowledge and software application for programs related to TRIO is preferred

Terms of Appointment
Professional staff, part-time (50%), bargaining, twelve month beginning October 1, 2014 through August 31, 2015. Two (2) months of the summer component will be at 100%.

$18,936 per year.
