Counselor, Upward Bound Math & Science (Part-time 50%)

This position plans, schedules and implements effective individual and group counseling sessions to include educational, career, personal and academic areas to all program participants to total five (5) individual sessions each and (5) group sessions of which required paperwork is maintained and submitted to document each as well as follow-up activities. S/he administers program assessment instrument as indicated in the proposal to all participants of which results are to be accurately and completely tallied, recorded and submitted for documentation in keeping with program objective or assessment. This position maintains GPA, credit checks and overall academic performance records on all program participants including regular checks with their home school and submits documentation of same for program records in keeping with program objectives on academic achievement. S/he assists program participants with completion of post-secondary education programs, applications for entry, financial aid material and scholarship information and submit report of placement by the end of each program year in keeping with program objective or post-secondary placement. This position works to achieve program follow-up objective by developing, implementing and submitting results of follow-up studies on all program graduates through completion of post-secondary education completion. S/he assists with monitoring, coordinating and implementation of the summer component of which record of students’ performance and grades (transcripts) is developed.
Master’s degree in Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Student Personnel or closely related field. Two (2) years’ experience in working with youth from low-income or disadvantaged background preferred; sensitivity in working with minority and disadvantaged students preferred; Computer knowledge and software application for programs related to TRIO preferred.
Terms of Appointment
Part-time, bargaining term October 1, 2013 to August 31, 2014 with possibility of renewal.
