HIRING UNIT: SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
DEPARTMENT OF CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION
TITLE/RANK: Assistant Professor-Reading/Literacy
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Responsibilities include: Teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in reading/literacy, contributing to program development and assessment, advising and mentoring students, and engaging in scholarship and service that contributes to the institution and profession. The Department is seeking individuals who are committed to working in a culturally diverse community.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT: Academic, tenure-track, 100%, continuing, 9-months, beginning August 2013.
SOURCE OF FUNDS: State
SALARY RANGE: commensurate with experience and credentials.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Qualified applicants will have 1) an earned doctorate in Literacy/Reading, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field by August 2013; 2) educational background in reading/literacy with knowledge of methods of teaching and assessing literacy at either the elementary or middle school level; 3) a minimum of two years full time teaching experience in grades K-8; 4) demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring adults; and 5) demonstrated excellence or potential for excellence in scholarship/research. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas; 1) reading/literacy assessment and evaluation, especially in clinic settings; 2) reading/literacy leadership and coaching; 3) foundations and research in reading/literacy and/or 4) reading/literacy instruction for English language learners.
