Office Support Associate

Job Description/Responsibilities
The School of Education, Student Services Support Associate position provides secretarial support to the Director, Assistant Directors and advisors and assists the other secretaries with office and clerical duties.  This position serves as the front desk coordinator for this busy student service office.  SOE Student Services serves students interested in initial teacher licensure, from the point of initial contact with SIUE through final state licensure.  SOE student Services handles all field placements for students and coordinates all the documentation required by the State of Illinois for teacher certification.  The Office Support Associate position may be assigned additional related duties and responsibilities in support of the department’s mission and goals. 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent; and 
  2. Any one or combination totaling eighteen (18) months from the following categories:
    (a) work experience performing routine clerical/office support work, including
         use of computer systems
    (b) vocational training that provided a knowledge of generally accepted
          clerical procedures
    (c) college or university course work in Office Occupations, Business
         Administration, Business Education, or closely related fields  
         30 semester hours = eighteen (18) months
    (d) college or university course work in any curriculum
         48 semester hours = eighteen (18) months; and
  3. Ability to keyboard accurately at a rate of 40 w.p.m. 

Additional Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Ability to answer multiple phone lines and use voice mail and electronic mail in a professional, accurate and friendly manner
  • Ability to screen telephone calls and visitors and personally handle routine inquiries, requests or problems
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment
  • Ability to maintain a wide variety of file and records
  • Sensitivity and ability to serve people courteously and confidentially
  • Knowledge of university and department standards and procedures
  • Ability to gather information requiring a general knowledge of university and department standards and procedures
  • Basic secretarial skills, typing, filing
  • Computer ability

Salary
$1,967 per month
