The following is a current Civil Service vacancy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Applicants compete by examination. BAKER IV - FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT
Description: The Baker IV is responsible for the planning, operating and review of a multi-unit bakery and supervising subordinates. Responsibilities of this position include: assisting in the training of bakery personnel; supervising and assisting in the cleaning of bakery and bakery equipment; preparing various baked goods including deserts, bread, pudding, icings, toppings, fillings, etc. including special decorated items for Dining Services departments; checking bakery items to ensure that quality standards are met. She/he will operate various equipment essential to task completion in bakery area; coordinate daily production of products with other Dining Services departments and department production manager; maintain daily records and inventory of supplies needed in bakery area, to develop accurate and consistent ordering of products and supplies in conjunction with multiple areas and with multiple suppliers; work directly with Production Manager to establish relationships with new vendors and products. The Baker IV may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department's mission and goals.
1. Five years of experience in a bake shop production of bakery products, two of which were in a supervisory capacity.
Personal Attributes Needed to Undertake Job:
• Knowledge of bakery terminology and equipment
• Knowledge of equipment, food safety and sanitation procedures
• Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations
• Knowledge of weights and measures
• Ability and/or specialized training in cake decorating
• Supervisory ability and experience
Starting Salary: $14.70 per hour
