Research Technologist I

Job Description/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager for the NIH Progression to Periodontal Disease grant.  The laboratory technologist will process all specimens collected in the study.  This will include aliquotting, organizing, recording, storing and shipment of the specimens according to a rigid protocol provided by the PI on the grant.  As needed, this technologist will also assist the clinicians in sample processing and collection in the dental operatory. 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. 1. Bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences, (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology) or a closely related field. 

Additional Knowledge and Skills Needed to Undertake Job
Applicants should be familiar with one of the following:

  1. Clinical microbiology techniques, including microscopy, bacterial cultivation and maintenance
  2. Clinical biochemistry techniques, including spectrophotometry and gel electrophoresis
  3. Clinical molecular biology techniques, including polymerase chain (PCRP and hybridization
