Dental Assistant II

Job Description/Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include providing chair side assistance to dental students, faculty, or residents who are performing operations; acting in response to the dental student or dentist’s specific directions; recording the oral condition as dictated by the dentist/resident/student who is performing the dental examination; taking and recording preliminary medical and dental histories, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.  The applicant will also maintain the operatory by preparing, cleaning/disinfecting the area before and after each patient appointment.  The Dental Assistant will escort patients to and from the dental operatory and ensure that dental records are available and all necessary information is recorded appropriately.  This position performs other related tasks as assigned in support of the School’s mission and goals. 

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Two years (24 months) of experience:
     a. Work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed at the Dental Assistant I level of this
         series.

                                                      OR

     b. Current Certification as a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) by the Dental Assisting National Board, if
         required by the employing institution.

Additional Skills and Knowledge Required
Applicants must have an in-depth knowledge and/or experience in assisting in general dentistry and thorough understanding of the disinfecting and sterilization of instruments/equipment and the preparation of treatment trays.  Candidates must be able to operate a computer in order to work in the clinical management software (axium) on a daily basis; have thorough knowledge and understand how to enter treatment information in patient charts both on paper and electronically and properly expose and develop radiographs.  Must know the instruments, equipment, materials and techniques used in general dentistry in order to participate in four-hand sit down dentistry in the clinic.
