Area Head of Ceramics, Assistant Professor
Department of Art & Design
Primary responsibilities include supervising the graduate and undergraduate Ceramic programs and managing and maintaining the studio facilities in the newly expanded art and design building. In addition applicants will be required to maintain an active research and exhibition record and to perform committee service to the department, college, and university. This is a nine month, full-time teaching position in the field of Ceramics, with a 3/3 load.
MFA with at least 2-3 years teaching experience in Ceramics at the university level (beyond TA) are preferable. Candidates should have broad knowledge in both traditional and contemporary techniques, including full range of techniques including hand building, wheel throwing, mold making, and slip casting. This person should also be adept at atmospheric firing processes including wood, soda and salt. Candidates experience should include technical expertise in all aspects of the ceramics studio operation including gas-fired kilns, electric kilns as well as the necessary maintenance and repair. This is a large facility with additional equipment standards to a well-equipped ceramics studio. Applicants also must demonstrate an understanding of contemporary trends and concepts in the field of Ceramics and must have an active exhibition record. Candidate should demonstrate capacity to work collegially in a cross disciplinary department.
