Office Support Specialist

Job Description/Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this position is to provide the first point of contact for all faculty, students and the SIUE community.  This position handles all incoming calls made to the Music Department, handles all faculty (over 40 including instructors and lecturers) and student (over 130) needs, runs the day-to-day business of the office.  This position also provides clerical support of various units within the Music Department such as the Suzuki Program and Keyboard Development.  The position also serves as the liaison and clerical support for the Friends of Music when interacting with various campus departments who help facilitate benefit events crucial to the Music Department’s Scholarship Fund.  The position also receives, maintains records and deposits all money received by various Music department functions such as Summer Camps, Suzuki Program, Keyboard Development Program, Friends of Music contributions, and all musical events.  The Office Support Specialist may be assigned other related tasks in support of the department’s mission and goals. 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Twelve (12) months of clerical/office support work experience.
  3. Any one or combination totaling twenty-four (24) months from the following categories:
    (a)  work experience performing clerical/office support work
    (b)  vocational training that provided a knowledge of generally accepted clerical procedures
    (c)  college or university course work in Office Occupations, Business Administration, Business Education, or closely related fields 36 semester hours = twenty-four (24) months
    (d)  college or university course work in any curriculum 60 semester hours = twenty-four (24) months  
  4. Ability to keyboard accurately at a rate of 40 net w.p.m.
