DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY POLICE

Job Description/Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Administration, the Director of University Police leads the SIUE Police Department.

Basic functions include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, organizes and directs police department

• Determines operational goals including but not limited to: budget and fiscal planning, daily police operations,
emergency and disaster planning, special events planning and campus safety plans

• Develops, revises, and implements operating policies and procedure

• Directs criminal investigations, security operations and traffic safety

• Oversees crime prevention programs

• Ensures police department compliance with all applicable federal and state statutes

• Acts as liaison between university and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in relevant field at an accredited university. Advanced degreee in a related field preferred.

Years of Experience: Minimum 10 years' experience in increasingly responsible and high level leadership positions within a police department, preferably in higher education.

Knowledge and skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication and public relations skills in diverse environment. Proven success in leading organizations and providing for safe, secure community. Demonstrated skills in working collaborating with constituent groups including staff, students, law enforcement agencies and local community. Knowledge of Federal and State Statutes. Experience in development of staff, compliance with Campus Security Act and general knowledge of fire and intrusion alarm systems required. Previous experience with emergency preparedness preferred. Must be able to obtain and maintain required certifications and licenses required by the State of Illinois.
