Human Resource Generalist (HR Associate)

Job Description/Responsibilities
The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for providing assistance and support to various human resources functions.  In particular, the position is responsible for the following:

  • Administer seasonal layoff procedures,
  • Review, analyze, and determine appropriate position classification,
  • Ensure new hires are prepared to begin their employment with the University by assisting in processing new hire information and contracts into the HR information system,
  • Schedule pre-employment screenings for potential employees,
  • Coordinate onboarding and assist with new employee orientation,
  • Serve as a liaison between new hires and HR for inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and employment,
  • Ensuring the University is compliant for both Form I-9 and Illinois Ethics training,
  • Administer the Employee of the Month Award and the Degree Completion Award, and
  • Assist with other departmental initiatives and projects on an ad hoc basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in human resources administration, human resources management, employee relations, labor relations, business administration, I/O psychology, or other related field.
  2. Two years of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
  3. One to three years of paid work experience performing professional-level human resources duties such as onboarding, Form I-9 compliance, new employee orientation, working knowledge of benefits, HRIS systems, and employment practices or other similar areas of HR.

Additional Knowledge and Skills Preferred by Hiring Unit

  1. College/University experience, non-profit or public sector administrative experience.
  2. Effective verbal communication and the ability to communicate at all levels within the University.
  3. Ability to problem solve and respond in timely manner when challenged with HR questions, utilizing strong interpersonal communication skills in conjunction with the ability to prioritize, manage time effectively, and keep issues confidential.
  4. Proficiency utilizing software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).

$3,093 per month
