Job Description
The Director of Student Financial Aid manages all aspects of the office of Financial Aid and Student Employment. 

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the student-centered delivery of federal, state, institutional, Foundation, and outside/other financial aid programs in a manner which supports the University’s enrollment and retention goals and ensures compliance with related regulations/policies/procedures
  • Develop and implement the overall philosophy, goals, operating procedures, and principles for the University’s comprehensive student financial aid program
  • Direct or supervise all office operations, program administration, fiscal affairs, budgetary functions for a multi-million dollar enterprise ($148 + million in 2012-13) which provides aid and services to well over 70% of the University’s students and families
  • Serve as the University’s chief officer and primary liaison to the State of Illinois and the United States Department of Education for the purpose of receiving funding from the state and federal aid programs
  • Comply with University, conference and NCAA Division I rules and regulations


  • Must have extensive university and/or financial aid experience to include a minimum of 8 years in student services with 5 years of progressively responsible experience in administering financial aid programs
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree
  • Must be able to deal with complex budgetary issues
  • Must have the ability to supervise personnel at all levels
  • Must be able to effectively communicate across organizational lines, and have excellent communication, analytical and management skills
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of student information systems, preferably Banner, and their application to financial aid
  • Proficiency with PC software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Experience in identifying system needs, preparing systems requirements, evaluating vendor software, preparing systems related documentation, and training user staff
  • Must have a thorough and excellent understanding of fiscal management and accounting procedures
  • Must have an excellent service and marketing orientation as well as thorough understanding of enrollment management

Professional Staff, non-bargaining, term 100%
