Analyzing Primary Sources
In times of conflict,
governments use artwork for a variety of reasons. To understand how the
government characterizes the enemy to further its cause, analyze and compare
two posters from World War II.
- What colors were
used? Why?
- What countries are
represented in the posters?
- What is the U.S.
symbolically doing in the posters?
- What is the main
message of the first poster?
- What is the main
message of the second poster?
- What symbolizes
Japan in both posters?
- Why were these used
to symbolize Japan?
- What effect do you
think this had on the American public?
