Working, and Celebrating Our Land

Explore America’s relationship to the land
through the lenses of history, environmental science, and
arts and culture in this 4 day institute. You will have
the opportunity to explore the Abraham Lincoln Presidential
Museum exhibit, “How Vast and How Varied a Field”-
The Agricultural Vision of Abraham Lincoln. Other sessions
include opportunities to engage with historians and Library
of Congress’ digital primary sources from the past
to better understand our sense of place. Also, engage with
colleagues to explore strategies and tools to engage students
to critically think and inquire when investigating primary
sources. Come and join us as we all rediscover “our
sense of place”!

Explore
how individual rights and liberties are challenged during
wartime throughout history. William Yoshino, educator for
the Japanese American Citizens League-Chicago Chapter, will
share information and expertise on Japanese Internment during
WWII in Springfield, IL. Other sessions include opportunities
to engage with historians encompassing other challenges
in history including President Abraham Lincoln’s suspension
of habeas corpus and more. Also, engage with colleagues
to explore strategies and tools to engage students to critically
think and inquire when investigating primary sources. Come
and join us as we remember events from the past to better
understand civil liberties today.
