Admission Requirements
- Admission to SIUE
- Completion of all general education requirements
- Passage of the ICTS Test of Academic Proficiency (formerly Basic Skills Test); no student will be allowed into special education course work beyond Special Education (SPE) 100 until he or she passes this test
- A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher from all secondary institutions attended
- 42 semester hours of coursework
- Grade of C or higher in all courses included in the 15 hours of foundations coursework
- A grade of B or higher in SPE 100 or an equivalent professional level course
- Good academic standing at SIUE (if applicable)
- Application for admission to the special education program and transcript of all course work completed
Application Deadline
- Fall admission – March 1
- Spring admission – October 1
Note: Application to the program is a competitive process. Applying to the program does not gaurantee admission.
Graduation Requirements
- Complete all specific program requirements
- Complete all general education requirements
- Complete a minimum of 124 credit hours (at least 30 of which must be completed at SIUE and at least 60 of which must be completed at a regionally accredited 4-year institution)
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5
- Bachelor of Science requires completion of eight lecture courses in life, physical or social science, including two with labs (EL). Check the Course Equivalency Guides (CEG) at siue.edu/transfer for approved courses.
- File an application for graduation by the first day of the term in which you plan to graduate
