Admission Requirements

Applicants to our graduate program must have, or be working toward, an undergraduate degree in Communication Disorders or have completed at least five courses in Communication Disorders at the time of application.

Students who already have an undergraduate degree in a different field but have not completed sufficient coursework can complete necessary coursework to prepare them to apply to graduate school in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology should apply to our undergraduate leveling plan.


  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.

  • Official GRE scores. Please use Institution Code 0701: SOUTHERN ILLINOIS-EDWRD CSDCAS

  • Three letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are ONLY accepted electronically via the CSDCAS portal link. At least 2 of the letters of recommendation must come from program faculty.

  • Resumé (Resumé information will be collected from the information included in the Experiences portion of the CSDCAS application. A separate resumé is not required.)

  • Transcripts from all schools attended. If currently enrolled, fall transcripts with grades posted must be provided for application to be complete. All official transcripts MUST be sent to CSDCAS at: CSDCAS Verification Department; P.O. Box 9113, Watertown, MA 02471

SIUE does NOT require a writing sample as part of the graduation application process. CSDCAS may require that you enter text in this field for your application to be considered complete. You are welcome to enter essay information for another institution. However, any information provided in this portion of the application will NOT be used as part of the admission review process for SIUE.

Admission to the graduate program is competitive and meeting all admission requirements does not ensure admission.

Exit Requirements

Students must successfully complete all academic and clinical requirements and pass a comprehensive examination or defend their thesis to successfully complete the graduate program.

Application Deadline

The application deadline for the graduate program is January 15 for the following fall semester.
