|On the evening of January 17th, 2008 we are celebrating 50 years of Psychology at SIUE! The Department of Psychology, the Psychology Club, and the Psi Chi Honor Society are hosting a lecture by Dr. Robert Sternberg. The central focus of his research is on intelligence, creativity, wisdom, and leadership. Dr. Sternberg’s talk is titled: Creativity as a Decision. The lecture will be at 7:00 p.m. in the Morris University Center’s Meridian Ballroom. A Psychology Student Research Poster Session will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Meridian Ballroom. |
Dr. Sternberg has won many awards throughout his career and holds eight honorary doctorates from universities around the world. Dr. Sternberg is among the top 75 “eminent psychologists” of the 20th century according to the Review of General Psychology, and he is considered an ISI “highly cited” researcher in psychology and psychiatry. He was the 2003 President of the American Psychological Association, and he is the author of more than 1,100 journal articles, book chapters, and books. He has received over $20 million in government, and other, grants and contracts for his research.
Dr. Robert Sternberg is Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University. Prior to that, he was IBM Professor of Psychology and Education in the Department of Psychology at Yale. He is also the director of the Center for the Psychology of Abilities, Competencies, and Expertise. This Center is dedicated to the advancement of theory, research, practice, and policy advancing the notion of intelligence as developing expertise — something that is modifiable and capable, to some extent, of development throughout the life span.
