Two years ago I graduated from the Clinical Adult Psychology program at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). The knowledge and skills I gained more than surpassed my expectations. My experiences as a graduate student at SIUE have been invaluable. With rigorous training and full support from faculty and mentors, I was challenged to reach my fullest potential as a clinical scientist, researcher, and college instructor. The program prepared me to be an effective psychotherapist by challenging me in the classroom and by offering assistance in finding great practicum sites. With assistance and encouragement from the clinical faculty I was able to co-present at least five different professional papers at national conferences. The professors take pride in fostering personal and professional growth. Each and every one takes time to help students succeed and grow. I had an interest in teaching and was encouraged to take courses that would prepare me to do just that. Two years later, I am in clinical practice and I teach part-time at SIUE.
The support I continue to receive from my mentors in the clinical adult program is invaluable even now, two years after graduation. Even today, they are always available to help when I need it. I strongly recommend this program to anyone who wishes to receive a first class education with many challenges and for those who wish to have a deeper understanding of how to be an effective and creative psychotherapist.
