Exercise Science Student Research

Students in Exercise Science may optionally participate in research associated with faculty members for class credit (KIN 499 Individual Research) as an elective. Previous research in the Exercise Science program has led to students presenting scientific work as a poster at a state or national scientific meeting and scientific publications. Participation in research can make a student more attractive to graduate schools or employers. Students may also apply to the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) program, enables students to participate in research and creative activities at the undergraduate level.

Examples of research performed by students working with faculty and presented at national conferences
  • American College of Sports Medicine single set resistance training protocol increases energy expenditure similar to three sets up to 72h.
  • Integrating physical activity into preschool classroom's academic lessons promotes daily physical activity and improves literacy.
  • Significant reductions in truncal adiposity does not alter ventilatory response to CO2 in obese adults.
  • Leptin resistance is improved through weight loss independent of changes in leptin's soluble receptor.
  • Intensive Lifestyle Modification Reduces Lp-PLA2 in Dylipidemic HIV Patients on Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy
  • SR-135, a Peroxynitrite Decomposing Catalyst, Reduces Post-Prandial Plasma Lipids in B6D2F1 Mice Fed an Obesogenic Diet
