Learning, Culture, and Society Graduate Program - Application Instructions

Program of Study  - Program Overview - Graduate School Application Page - Primary Faculty

How to apply:

Becoming a graduate student at SIUE is a two-part process; it is recommended that both parts be undertaken simultaneously.

PART ONE: Apply to the SIUE Graduate School

Begin by going to the SIUE Graduate School web site, which contains all necessary information regarding applying to SIUE, including requirements, fees, deadlines, application forms, and financial aid. It is possible to apply online.

PART TWO: Apply to the Learning, Culture, and Society Program

To do this, send the following items to the Program Director for Learning, Culture, and Society.

• Chronological list of professional experiences (including dates employed and type of position) OR current resume.

• Written statement: Write an autobiographical statement. This statement has three purposes: (1) to tell the admissions committee about your past professional, educational, and/or personal experiences; (2) to describe for the admissions committee your professional goals; (3) to discuss the ways that a Master’s degree in Learning, Culture, and Society will help you reach those goals. The statement should not exceed 3 pages in length and should be typed and double-spaced on 8 1/2 “ by 11” white paper.

These materials are to be mailed directly to the Learning, Culture, and Society Program Director, Department of Educational Leadership, Box 1125, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1125

Please note that all other materials (the Graduate School application form itself and transcripts) are to be sent directly to SIUE's Office of Graduate and International Admissions, Box 1047, not to the Learning, Culture and Society Program Director

Students who are admitted to the program will be notified by the Department of Educational Leadership, and given the name of their advisor.

DEADLINES and APPLICATION MATERIALS:

Applicants to the program are responsible for the timely receipt of all application materials.

Deadline for admission to the program is generally one month prior to the first day of classes of a given term (e. g., if Fall term classes start on August 15, the deadline for applications will be July 15; the deadline for the Spring term will be early December, and the deadline for international students is, for all terms, even earlier than the dates above, typically 6 or 7 weeks earlier). Checking well ahead of the deadline, with both the Department of Educational Leadership and with the SIUE Graduate Admissions Office (618.650.3010), to determine if all materials have been received will prevent frustration and delay

The deadline dates in the preceding paragraph are approximations; the actual dates vary from year to year. For exact dates, consult the "Key Dates and Deadlines" page at the Registrar and Service Center website.

International applicants should also consult the Graduate School's International Student Application page.

Deadlines apply to the receipt of ALL application materials – application form, transcript(s), written statement, – not just to the application form itself. The application form and your transcript must be received by the Graduate School NO LATER THAN the specified deadline; all supporting materials must be received in the Department of Educational Leadership NO LATER THAN the specified deadline.

For information on financial aid please see this site's Fellowships and Assistantships page.
