Professional Development Sequences

The Instructional Technology Program offers four Professional Development Sequences (PDSs).  Each is 100% online.  The four Professional Development Sequences are Emerging Technologies, Instructional Design, Online Pedagogy, and Teaching with Technology.

Emerging Technologies

The Emerging Technologies PDS provides educators with fundamental grounding in designing lesson plans that integrate computers and other cutting edge technologies into classrooms.  This sequence includes the following three courses: 

  • Computers in Education:  Theories and Practice (IT481)
  • Emerging Technologies in Education (IT550)
  • Leadership in Educational Technology (IT560)

Instructional Design

The instructional design PDS provides organizational training personnel with a foundation in the practice of instructional design.  This sequence includes the following three courses:

  • Web Design for Instruction (IT 486)
  • Needs Assessment and Program Evaluation in Instructional Technology (IT505)
  • Instructional Systems Design (IT 510)

Online Pedagogy

The Online Pedagogy PDS provides educators, corporate training personnel, and college instructors with skills necessary for designing and teaching within the online classroom.  Specifically, the curriculum will train students in processes for creating, managing, facilitating, and evaluating online courses.  The sequence includes the three courses listed below; a more detailed description of the PDS can be found here

  • Online Teaching Tools (IT567)
  • Design and Development of Online Lessons, Modules, and Courses (IT568)
  • Facilitating Online Classrooms (IT569)

Teaching with Technology

The Teaching with Technology PDS offers educators an opportunity to gain hands-on skills in utilizing technology efficiently and effectively in the classroom to enhance student learning.  The sequence includes the three courses listed below; a more detailed description of the PDS can be found here

  • Designing Digital Materials (IT561)
  • Social Media for Teachers (IT562)
  • Games and Simulations (IT563)
