Master of Science in Education (MSEd)
Specialist’s Degree in Education
-Individuals already holding a master of science may complete a certification-only or specialist option.
The Department of Educational Leadership offers a program of study leading to the master of science in education (MSEd) degree. There are two program options: Teacher Leader or Principal. There are three pathways that lead to the Principal Endorsement on Illinois’ Professional Educator License, Teacher Leader and/or Initial Administrative Certification in Missouri: (1) a master’s program; (2) a specialist’s program for students who already hold a master’s , and; (3) a certification-only (non-degree) program for students who already hold a master’s but do not wish to pursue an additional graduate degree.
Completion of the Principal Endorsement or Teacher Leader program (endorsement, master’s, or specialist) ordinarily satisfies Illinois requirements for the associated endorsement. The Principal Endorsement prepares professionals to be elementary, middle school, or high school principals and assistant principals. The Teacher Leader endorsement prepares professionals to assume a variety of building level leadership roles. Courses are generally acceptable for certification in other states.
