General requirements for admission to graduate study at the master’s level in educational administration are the same as those of the Graduate School. In addition, applicants for admission must (1) hold a valid and current Professional Educators License, (2) have passed the test of academic proficiency if the candidate has not been required to take the test for receipt of his/her Illinois Professional Educator License, and have a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
Students meeting the admission requirements will be given provisional admission allowing them to enroll in EDAD 500: Organization and Administration of Schools. During EDAD 500, students complete the candidate selection process. This process includes:
Upon successful completion of EDAD 500 and selection as a candidate, candidates receive full admittance to the program.
All candidates for the principal endorsement must fulfill internship requirements with a qualified site mentor. The internship is typically two semesters long. The internship requires high levels of participation in specific leadership activities.
Enrollment in the internship requires: (a) completing program course work; (b) passing the required Illinois performance evaluation training for teacher evaluation; (C) passing the Illinois principal certification test.
