Elementary EducationOverview
The Elementary Education is a field-intensive program involving students and faculty in public school partnerships. All students will have placements in rural, urban and metropolitan settings along with multiple grade levels, i.e. primary, intermediate and middle school. Students will be in the field, thereby meeting and exceeding the state requirement of at least 100 hours of clinical experience, and have classes on campus throughout the week. In this experience, student interns, in a school and under the guidance of a cooperating teacher and University supervisor, gradually gain knowledge and skills to assume the role of a teacher. Elementary Education students will have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experiences that verify the standards necessary to be an outstanding Elementary Teacher.
Before a student is enrolled in the Elementary Education Program, they must pass a Basic Skills Test in addition to meeting the admission requirements for the program.
