Early Childhood EducationOverview
The Early Childhood Education program at SIUE is offered as a Partnership. Students acquire experience with children on regular basis working with the range of ages that encompass early childhood education-infant-toddler, prekindergarten, and kindergarten-primary. Students relate their ongoing work with young children in the schools with classes they take on campus. Students gradually gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to demonstrate competence with the Standards in Early Childhood Education, which is the basis for the early childhood teacher preparation program.
In the first two years, students complete their general education requirements. The last two years consist of professional education courses in which they accumulate the required 100 hours of clinical experiences before student teaching.
Before a student is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program, they must pass a Basic Skills Test in addition to meeting the admission requirements.
