Admission Requirements

Students seeking admission to Secondary Education must:

  • earn a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 overall or higher (A=4.0) for the last two years of undergraduate work.
  •  have a valid teaching certificate from an accredited institution.

Applicants who do not meet these program requirements may be considered for admission; however, some conditions may be applied to that admission.

Applicants may not enroll in any courses applicable to the graduate degree until they have consulted with the director of the graduate program in secondary education and with the graduate advisor in the teaching field.

Complete and Submit:

The completed Graduate Admissions Application, the completed Curriculum & Instruction Application, and transcripts are reviewed by Curriculum & Instruction faculty for admission into a graduate program.

Upon notification of acceptance, students should make an appointment to meet with their assigned faculty mentor to plan a program of study.

SIUE allows six years from the date of the first courses (transferred or taken at SIUE) to complete your degree.

Exit Requirements

All candidates must complete all program assessments, including an action research paper on an approved research project.
