General Education Waiver

As of fall 2008, the undergraduate programs leading to initial licensure of early childhood education, special education, and mathematics education have agreed to accept an associate's degree (associate of arts, associate of science, associate of science and arts, and associate of arts in teaching) from an approved community college in accordance with SIUE's general waiver policy (please refer to SIUE catalog for current policy). A grade or C or higher is also required in coursework. Early childhood, special education, and mathematics education programs will accept that general education requirements (Except the 3 hour IS course at SIUE) have been met and the candidate can proceed to the professional program with the completion of any of the degrees specified above once formally admitted to the Partnership Program. Apply to the Program is separate than applying to the University or declaring a major. Applications should be available in January prior to the Fall beginning the Partnership Program.

If you are completing an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree (AAT/AA or AS), the following checklist has been designed for your use:

AAT in Early Childhood [ pdf]

For Early Childhood students: Taking the approved equivalent to CI 200 should be taken and passed with a grade of C or higher and taking the approved equivalent to Ed Psychology will also help the student.

For Special Education students: Taking the approved equivalent to SPE 200 should be taken and passed with a grade of B or higher and taking the approved equivalent to Ed Psychology will also help the student.
