Students will explore the geographical layout of the 1904 World’s Fair and compare it with the current layout of downtown St. Louis, Missouri. They will locate the remaining structures and discover what replaced the original palaces.
State Standards: SS7 17

17.A.3b Explain how to make and use geographic representations to provide and enhance spatial information including maps, graphs, charts, models, aerial photographs, satellite images.
Objectives:
1. Students will research the various palaces built for the 1904 world’s fair.
2. Through discussions, students will compare the past and current layout of St. Louis, Missouri.
3. Students will create a two sided map to show the location of the palaces in 1904 to the current structures of today.

Methods:
Anticipatory Set: Students will view the panoramic map of 1904 and a current map of Forrest Park in St. Louis, Missouri and look for the common link.
1. Search the web for locations and descriptions of the palaces and their uses.
2. Students will view a panoramic
map of the 1904 layout and compare it with a
current map of St. Louis, Missouri.
3. Students will draw a two sided map to show the specific locations of the palaces in 1904 with the structures today. They will label and color this map.
4. Class will discuss any structures of 1904 still in place today and debate why or why not the original structures were appropriately destroyed.
5. Students will share and display work with other classes.
Evaluation:
25 points for completion of work on time
