Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library in Springfield, Illinois 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

*Full attendance required to receive participant technology award.

Goals of Institute

Enhance content knowledge

  • Guest speaker on surrounding themes/topics pertaining to Abraham Lincoln

  • Research the Library of Congress website for primary sources surrounding the themes/topics pertaining to Abraham Lincoln

  • Collaboration and sharing among colleagues on findings

  • Tour Abraham Lincoln's Presidential museum and Library in Springfield, Illinois

Identification and use of best instructional practices for teaching with primary sources

  • Guest speaker on content and/or best instructional practices for teaching with primary sources

  • Identification and evaluation of strategies and methods used within existing lessons integrating primary sources

Design, present, implement, and assess a standards-based learning experience integrating primary sources pertaining to Abraham Lincoln from the Library of Congress that exemplifies best practice for teaching with primary sources

  • Designing a learning experience in relation to best practices in using primary sources

  • Presenting learning experience with colleagues

  • Implement and assess learning experience

  • Target Audience
    Participants will consist of K-12 in-service educators who have successfully completed the basic workshop series or AAM graduate course. There will be an application process due to limited space.
  • Format
    Development sessions and symposium consists of presenters, hands on activities, and collaboration with colleagues.


    Participant Technology Award
    A classroom projector will be awarded after all institute requirements are successfully met. The classroom projector is intended to assist educators in the use of the Library of Congress digital resources with students. The technology incentive will be purchased through An Adventure of the American Mind grant. The projectors will be stored in the participant's work area and belong to the participant with the intent that the individual who earns the projector will use the projector in a K-12 classroom.
  • *CPDU's will also be offered to all participants after attending all required sessions and symposium.
