March 5-11: Break Week

April 30 - May 4: Final Exams

May 4-5: Commencement

Note:  No weekend classes March 10-11 and April 7-8.  Final exams for weekend classes are April 28 following the last class session.

Spring 2012 ECC Events

April

Tue, April 3rd: Parent Workshop - Sleep A-Z presented by St. Louis Children's Hospital 5:30-7 p.m. at ECC. Must Pre-Register by calling (314) 454-KIDS (5437).

April 22nd-28th: Week of the Young Child Art Exhibit & Reception at Morris University Center. Stop by the Art Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Morris University Center to view art created by ECC students. Art Hours: Open Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Tue, April 24th: ECC Family Reception at MUC Art Gallery 6:00-7:30p.m.

Thu, April 26th: END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION

May

Tue, May 8th: St. Louis Children's Hospital Safety Stop: 4-7 p.m. in Lot 11. Car Seat and Helmet Check (click link for details).

NATURE EXPLORER CLASSROOM

During Fall 2009, we finished the renovation and expansion of the SIUE Early Childhood Center buildingTwo young girls press leaves into a piece of clay. to include two new classrooms and additional common space. Our new building includes several sustainable design features including  rain gardens at all downspouts, low flow facets to reduce water use, sensors to reduce electric lighting levels, flooring materials made using recycled content and other features.

The existing playground, while it has some excellent features including gardens, bird feeding stations and beautiful new fencing is basically a traditional playground. In an effort to expand our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, plans are underway for an outdoor classroom that reflects the prairie and woodland setting of the campus, a space that would support our programs emphasis on valuing and learning about the natural world.
