The 7th Annual Wheelchair Basketball Game was held on April 16, 2008, at 6:00 PM in the Vadalabene Center on SIUE’s campus.   This event, which was free to the public also provided free food and drinks.  At the game, audience members had the opportunity to watch as well as play wheelchair basketball and participate in wheelchair races.   The Confluence Center Coast Wheelchair Basketball team, led by Jim Dugan, once again defeated the SIUE Men's and Women's Basketball Team with a final score of 41-14 giving Confluence a record of 7 to 0 against the SIUE Teams.

A Nintendo Wii was given away in a special drawing for those who attended the event with James Daniel, an SIUE student, as the big winner of the Wii.  In addition, some of the other attendance prizes awarded were an Ipod Shuffle, MP3 Player, Six Flags tickets, free admission vouchers to The Magic House, free admission vouchers to Edwardsville Children’s Museum, ticket vouchers to Wehrenberg Theatres, a gift basket to Robert Clark Salon & Spa, free Oil Changes, and many more!!

The emcee for the event was from the Gateway Grizzlies who was joined by Izzy, the Gateway Grizzly mascot as well as the SIUE Cougar.  The SIUE Dance Team and the SIUE Cheerleaders provided the entertainment for this family friendly event and a good time was had by all in attendance!

The members of the Speech Communication 415 Class, consisting of Danielle Lyons, Amy Zentgraf, Karie Dorr, Lori Roberts, and Jennifer Shacklady elected to assist in the planning and implementation of the 7th Annual Wheelchair Basketball Game as their Public Relations Senior Project.  Their combined efforts and hard work helped make this one of our most successful and well attended events.
