As older faculty enter retirement and younger graduates forego teaching for more lucrative private practice incomes, dental schools across the country are facing severe shortages of qualified faculty. The School of Dental Medicine is no exception. In recent years, the School has found it increasingly difficult to attract and retain full-time faculty members. A strong faculty is at the core of our ability to educate the best practitioners in the region. To ensure students reach their full potential and are best prepared for careers in dental medicine, we must find innovative ways to attract faculty members with the latest knowledge and skills, as well as a passion to motivate and engage students.
A Faculty Recruitment and Retention Endowment will allow the School to supplement salaries now offered by the University to prospective and current faculty. With this support, we can pursue faculty members of the highest caliber who will add to the growing reputation and impact of the School. This endowment will ensure that our tradition of excellence in dental education continues and that our graduates are positioned to become regional and national leaders in the field.
