Since our first class graduated in 1975, the School of Dental Medicine has been working to improve the oral health of Illinois through education, patient care, scholarship and service. For 35 years, we have operated under the banner of excellence in dental education.
Our students are our top priority at the SIU School of Dental Medicine. We eagerly serve our students, helping them reach their fullest potential. As a result, they traditionally score very well on the National Board Dental Exams.
Managing over 32,000 patient visits last year, we are pleased that patients report a very high satisfaction rate with the oral health care provided in our clinics in Alton and East St. Louis. We continue to incorporate newer technologies into our clinical program.
The faculty continue to mentor students in dental research and a number of students have presented their results at national scientific meetings. Collaboration among faculty on research projects within the University and with a number of other universities is flourishing.
The Community & Preventive Dentistry community outreach program continues to improve access to quality oral health for over 8,000 men, women, and children annually through educational programs, oral cancer screenings and/or oral health treatments. Each year, our “Give Kids A Smile Day” treats a significant number of area children, providing thousands of dollars worth of free dental treatment, including examinations, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, fillings and extractions.
We are proud of the achievements of our students and faculty. Their hard work and continued dedication has earned us an excellent reputation. This level of accomplishment is not easily achieved or maintained without the support of alumni and friends.
As state support to dental education decreases, private contributions to the School of Dental Medicine afford us the opportunity to achieve tremendous success in our efforts to continuously improve the quality of dental education we provide our students. Only through your generosity can we continue to help our dental students develop into excellent dental practitioners.
