We hope you enjoy reading each issue of the "The Regular Checkup," our alumni newsletter. "The Regular Checkup" shares stories and photos of campus and community events, featuring alumni, students, faculty, and friends.
We also hope to see you soon at one of our annual alumni events. Each year, we host three signature events for our SIU SDM alumni: our Alumni Homecoming, our Midwinter Alumni Reception in Chicago and our Prophy Cup Challenge Golf Tournament. In addition, we often host alumni receptions at the Illinois State Dental Society's Annual Meeting, the American Dental Association's Annual Session and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society's Dental Congress.
Also during the year, we try to help those alumni celebrating the anniversary of their commencement from the dental school to arrange a Reunion Reception. Please feel free to let us know if we can help coordinate a reunion event for your class.
Stephen Schaus continues to serve as our Director of Development. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding the SIU dental school, he is available to serve you. He can also assist you in giving back to your Alma mater. Please feel free to contact him at 618-474-7271, or via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additionally, Dr. Keith Dickey might also be helpful. He serves the SIU dental school as the Director of Continuing Education and Alumni Services. You may contact him at 618-474-7201, or via e-mail at email@example.com.

The SIU SDM Alumni Association hosted the 6th Annual Alumni Homecoming on October 6, 2012. As in the past, the 2012 Homecoming included a Picnic Lunch, a Continuing Education program and an Alumni Reception, all held on the Alton Campus of SIU SDM.
The 2012 SIU SDM Alumni Homecoming featured Class Reunion events for three classes celebrating a Commencement Anniversary. The Class of 1982, the Class of 1987 and the Class of 2002 each were well represented. The Class of 1987 earned the top honors as the best represented class at the 2012 Homecoming Reception. Following the reception, the three classes enjoyed an intimate dinner in historic downtown Alton with their respective classmates.
The SIU SDM Homecoming Reception saw over 75 guests. Including the anniversary class years, 24 different class years were represented at the event.
The 7th Annual SIU SDM Alumni Homecoming is scheduled for October 5, 2013.Back to top
The 2013 SIU SDM Midwinter Alumni Reception in Chicago was attended by over 130 guests, including over 75 SIU SDM alumni. The event was held at the InterContinental Hotel on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile on February 22, 2013.

The team of Nick Baker (Class of 2008), Steve Workman (Class of 2008), Joel Lovell (Class of 2012) and Dan Lovell (Class of 2008) shot an impressive 6 under par and placed a very respectable second at the 18th Annual Prophy Cup Challenge.
On May 3, 2013, the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine hosted the 18th Annual Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge Golf Tournament. To suggest that the weather failed to cooperate with the event would be a considerable understatement. Nonetheless, a surprising number of teams persevered in the cold and rain and challenged a difficult course.
With the collective contribution from all the sponsors of and participants in the 2013 Prophy Cup Challenge Golf Tournament, the SIU SDM faculty recruitment and retention fund –supported exclusively by proceeds from the golf tournament—will exceed $200,000. This fund remains critical to the success of our immediate and enduring goals for faculty recruitment and retention at the SIU dental school.
The golf tournament is traditionally held at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer designed and managed facility, one of the finest golf courses in the Midwest. The Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge is scheduled each year on the first Friday of May, which will be on May 2nd in 2014.
