On May 1, 2009, we hosted the 14th Annual Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge Golf Tournament. The Prophy Cup Challenge continues to represent one of the SIU dental school’s most anticipated alumni events. Proceeds from the golf tournament support the Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge Faculty Recruitment and Retention Endowment and Development Funds, which allow the SIU dental school to continue to offer our dental students excellence in dental education by providing the resources necessary to recruit and retain outstanding faculty members. The golf tournament is traditionally held at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer designed and managed facility, one of the finest golf courses in the Midwest. The event is scheduled each year on the first Friday of May, which will be on May 7th in 2010.

In October 2008, we hosted our 2nd Annual Alumni Homecoming, inviting all of our alumni to return to campus to enjoy a full day of activities. This year, Homecoming began with the White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2012. Following the White Coat Ceremony, alumni, faculty and friends, as well as the students participating in the ceremony and their respective guests, were invited to to a picnic lunch on the Alton campus. After lunch, interested guests were offered a free continuing education lecture entitled, "The Restorative Edge," presented by Dr. James Braun and Coltene-Whaledent. The day of activities concluded with an Alumni Reception held in the Science Building on campus. Our 3rd Annual SIU SDM Homecoming will introduce a new format and is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2009.
Also, during the year, we try to help those alumni celebrating the anniversary of their commencement from the dental school to arrange a Reunion Reception. During 2008, the Class of 1978, the Class of 1983, the Class of 1988, the Class of 1998 and the Class of 2003 celebrated their 30-Year, 25-Year, 20-Year, 10-Year and 5-Year Reunions, respectively.
