Each May, the Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge Golf Tournament continues to represent one of the SIU dental school’s most anticipated alumni events. Proceeds from the golf tournament support the Mac McKenzie Prophy Cup Challenge Faculty Recruitment and Retention Endowment and Development Funds, which allow the SIU dental school to continue to offer our dental students excellence in dental education by providing the resources necessary to recruit and retain outstanding faculty members. The golf tournament is traditionally held at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course, an Arnold Palmer designed and managed facility, one of the finest golf courses in the Midwest. The event is scheduled each year on the first Friday of May, which will be on May 1st in 2009.

Our annual Midwinter Alumni Reception in February continues to be a popular alumni event. Each year on Friday evening during the Chicago Dental Society's Midwinter Meeting, we invite our alumni, faculty and friends to meet at the Hotel Intercontinental-Chicago, located on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. The event has grown through the years and traditionally enjoys the company of over 100 alumni, faculty, students, and friends. Our Midwinter Alumni Reception will return to the Hotel Intercontinental on Friday, February 27, 2009.
In October 2007, we invited alumni to return to campus for Homecoming 2007. Homecoming activities began with the White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2011. Following the White Coat Ceremony, alumni, faculty and friends, as well as guests of the students participating in the ceremony, were invited to lunch at the Alton campus. After lunch, SIU dental students and Dr. Allen Otsuka, SIU School of Dental Medicine Associate Professor, offered research presentations. The day of activities concluded with an Alumni Reception held in the Alumni Conference Center on campus.

In September 2007, the SIU dental school hosted an alumni reception at the ADA Annual Session in San Francisco. While it is always a pleasure to see alumni from Illinois and Missouri, our reception during the ADA Annual Session often offers us an opportunity to visit with alumni representing more geographic diversity. In San Francisco, we saw a number of alumni from the host state of California, and we also had the opportunity to visit with alumni from Georgia and Virginia.
Also, during the year, we try to help those alumni celebrating the anniversary of their commencement from the dental school to arrange a Reunion Reception. During 2007, the Class of 1977, the Class of 1982, the Class of 1987, the Class of 1997 and the Class of 2002 celebrated their 30-Year, 25-Year, 20-Year, 10-Year and 5-Year Reunions, respectively.
