Becoming a Patient

Patients at the School of Dental Medicine receive quality dental care provided by a student or resident, plus supervision by experienced dental faculty. You also gain the advantage of treatment at a substantially lower fee.

To become a patient, please call for a screening appointment where a faculty member will evaluate your health and dental needs. For screening appointments and general information, call 618-474‑7000, toll-free 888-328‑5168, extension 7000, or for the Edwardsville Clinic 618-650-5781.

Most patients’ needs are compatible with the educational goals of one of our various programs. We accept patients into our programs based on this assessment. Most patients can be treated in our student clinic.

Patients with complex needs are referred to our Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program (requiring an additional screening appointment before acceptance as an AEGD patient) or to another of our postdoctoral training programs.

If the complexity of your needs are not compatible with our teaching clinics, we will explain this to you and recommend care in a setting better suited to your needs.
