| Defining Excellence — The Campaign for SIUE, our major gifts campaign, is about propelling SIUE to a new level of prominence and performance. Great things are happening all around SIUE: our outstanding national rankings, our transition to NCAA Division I athletics competition, and our largest enrollment in the school's history. Our peers, our community, and our students all recognize our momentum as an institution that's raising the bar in higher education. Our growth has been challenged as state funding has declined from 46 percent of our operating budget in fiscal year 1999 to 26 percent in fiscal year 2011. To compensate for the state funding shortfall, the University's tuition has had to increase from 17 percent of our total costs to 29 percent in the same time period, substantially raising the financial burden on our students and their families. |
