As an only child, I always enjoyed school because I loved learning, especially history, and connecting with the people at school. From an early age I decided to become a teacher and never wavered from that decision throughout my education. I love working with elementary age children because they are "open books," ready to fill their pages with all kinds of knowledge; "sponges,” eager to soak up so many experiences. My favorite subjects to teach are Language Arts and Social Studies. I try to incorporate writing across the curriculum and give students the opportunity to assess their own work/chart their progress throughout the year. I like to give my students opportunities to connect with the real world through technology, field trips, correspondence with pen pals; and hands on activities such as math explorations, cooking projects, science experiments and art activities. My students are also involved in student led conferences with their families during the school year. I also enjoy my involvement with student teachers because of their eagerness to work with students, and the cutting edge strategies they bring with them to the classroom.
