The Wellness Center offers programs to SIUE students, faculty/staff, and SFC members that are designed to assist individuals in making healthy lifestyle choices that focus on the basic principles of wellness.

Fitness Assessments

This program provides baseline measurements of flexibility, endurance, blood pressure, muscular strength, body composition, and cardiovascular fitness. Results from these tests are reviewed and used to create a personalized fitness plan tailored to help you achieve your health and fitness goals.

To schedule your fitness assessment, please complete the Health History Questionnaire and bring it to the Wellness Center. If you have any questions, please call (618) 650-2935.

Note: If you arrive 10 or more minutes late for your assessment it will be canceled.

Fitness Assessment Body Composition Test only
  • Free for SIUE Students and SFC Members
  • $25 for SIUE Faculty and Staff
  • Free for SIUE Students and Student Fitness Center Members
  • $5 for SIUE Faculty & Staff (non-members)

Components of a Fitness Assessment:

  • Body composition - administered by skin fold assessments
  • Cardio respiratory fitness - administered with treadmill walking, running or bicycle tests
  • Muscular strength - administered with a push-up, crunch, and/or bench press test
  • Flexibility assessment - administered with a sit and reach test

Physician Clearance Policy:
If you answer "yes" to two or more of the following questions, you will need a medical clearance to participate in our Personal Training Program.

  • Are you a male over 45 or a female over 55 years age?
  • Do you have a family history of heart disease or heart attacks before age 55 in a male relative or before the age of 65 in a female relative?
  • Do you currently smoke or use tobacco?
  • Do you have or have you ever been told that you have high blood pressure (> 140/90)?
  • Do you have or have you ever been told that you have high cholesterol (> 200)?
  • Are you a diabetic?
  • Do you have a BMI > 30 or waist girth > 102 cm for men and > 88 cm for women?
  • Are you currently sedentary (not engaging in regular physical activity?)



Consultations
Fitness Consultation
This program provides information on either designing a safe and effective exercise program or making improvements to a current program. One of our qualified fitness professionals will meet with you one-on-one to review your fitness goals and assist you with developing a personalized fitness program. Consultations are approximately 30 minutes in length.

Injury Consultation
Consultations are provided by an Athletic Trainer who will evaluate exercise-related injuries and provide recommendations for treatment and rehabilitation. Sessions are approximately 30 minutes in length.

  • $10 per visit for SIUE Students
  • $17 for SIUE Faculty, Staff, and SFC Members

Nutrition Consultation
This 30 minute consultation provides education and recommendations for a healthier lifestyle. One of our fitness professionals will sit down and review your food log and frequency questionnaire (to be filled out prior to the consultation) to help you determine what changes you can make to meet your nutrition goals. Please visit the Wellness Center today to make an appointment and pick up required paperwork. *Please note that we are unable to provide you with a specific menu based on your goals, as we do not have a Registered Dietitian on staff.

Weight Room Orientations

Orientations are available to all SIUE students and SFC members. Our qualified fitness staff will demonstrate and fully explain how to safely and effectively use the cardio and strength equipment available in our facility. We highly encourage all new participants to take advantage of this FREE service.



Presentations
Presentations are provided for any SIUE student group or department. Your group may visit our facility or we will be happy to come to you. Please provide us with at least two weeks notice.
