| Alie completed the SIUe in-house group fitness instructor certification in spring 2009 and is also SPINNING® certified and AFAA Primary Group Fitness certified. She loves being able to help others to get motivated and live an active lifestyle! Alie is currently teaching and coaching. | Janelle | Janelle is the Graduate Assistant for Group fitness here at SIUE. She is an AFFA Primary Group Fitness Instructor; SPINNING® certified and completed the SIUe in-house group fitness instructor certification in spring 2009. She currently teaches Sports Conditioning and Spinning. Janelle completed her Undergrad here at SIUE with a degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Art. She is currently working on her Masters in Exercise Physiology. Janelle loves incorporating her sports background to push participants to their limit! | |
| Judi | We are proud to introduce Judi Underhill to the Cougar Fitness team. Judi's very first yoga class was taught by her "daughter"! It was through her inspiration that Judi developed her practice with Leslie Boyce, CYT, E-RYT and Janet Snyder, CYT of Many Hearts Yoga in St. Louis, Missouri and completed her 200 hour Teacher Training Certification in 2010. Judi says "Yoga has changed my life. I want to share the joy and incredible physical and mental benefit it has brought me." Fun fact about Judi is that she and her husband have recently bought a sailboat and plan to circumnavigate the Caribbean while experiencing different styles of yoga! | Courtney | Courtney Page is an undergraduate student studying Speech-Language Pathology. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Zumba and NETA Group Fitness certified. One thing she loves about group fitness having a positive attitude and motivating others, while having others motivate her in return through the workout! Courtney first became involved with group fitness by attending a lot of group fitness classes when she was a freshman at SIUE. She fell in love with the atmosphere and relationships she developed in class. This passion led her to take the leap and become an instructor herself. She has been running half marathons for two years and will run her first fill marathon in October 2013! Her favorite quote is “where you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right. “ |
| Doug is joining the SIUe group fitness program. Doug received his Associates degree in Exercise Science from Lewis and Clark and will be pursing his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education at SIUe. Doug is ACSM Personal Training Certified. During his time at Lewis and Clark Doug instructed Adult Bootcamps and Sports Performance classes. | Justin is Group Fitness Certified and Spinning© Certified and instructs for both types of classes. Justin earned both his Bachelor’s in Psychology & Philosophy and M.S.Ed in Kinesiology right here at SIUE and comes to us with a military (USMC), cycling, and triathlon background. He enjoys making his classes challenging and rewarding for people of all fitness levels. | ||
| Makenzie | Makenzie is a junior here at SIUE majoring in Social Work. Makenzie’s background in ballet got her into dance and she really got going once she became a licensed Zumba instructor. Some fun facts about Makenzie are that her favorite color is pink and she loves dogs. Her favorite thing about group fitness is encouraging each other to be active and the sense of community that group fitness brings. Her charismatic attitude and smooth moves will keep you coming back to her classes and bringing a friend! In the future she would like to put her major to good use and become a Social Worker. | Paula is a certified AFFA Primary Group Fitness Instructor. She is also a certified SPIN® instructor. She has been teaching at SIUe for 5 years. Paula enjoys watching participants see results from exercising and seeing them get excited about working out! | |
| Kim has been teaching at SIUe for over 9 years. In the past she has taught Hi/Lo Cardio, Kickboxing, Body Sculpting and Step it UP. Kim loves getting participants excited about the classes while also getting a great workout! | Falon is a Belly Dancing Instructor and has been teaching at SIUe for 5 years. She is currently the Director of Desert Moon Dance Academy East in Edwardsville, IL and has dance training in ballet, tap, modern and African with the Katherine Dunham technique. Falon enjoys meeting new student each semester and loves that she not only teaches movements, but also the history behind the movements! | ||
| Melvin is joining the SIUe group fitness program as a Spin instructor. Melvin enjoys being on the bike and helping others get fit. He feels that spinning is a great low impact way to reach your fitness goals. | Kaitlyn Leigh | Kaitlyn Leigh is a graduate student in the Kinesiology program. She is certified in TurboKick and AFAA Primary Group Fitness. Kaitlyn started attending group fitness classes as an undergrad and fell in love because of the atmosphere. The motivating and upbeat atmosphere that Group Fitness classes provide is the reason Kaitlyn loves instructing! She believes that "ability is what you are capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." | |
| Lauren completed the SIUe in-house group fitness instructor certification in Fall 2009. She loves being able to help others improve their health in a fun and exciting way! She also loves teaching in general and being able to see the progress made by the class participants. Lauren is a senior majoring in Elementary Education. After graduation she plans to continue her studies by pursuing a master’s degree in education. She hopes to find a job teaching in the elementary grades while also coaching dance and volleyball, as well as teaching fitness classes. | Kiana | Kiana is a sophomore pre-nursing student that has a love for shaking it! She fell in love with Zumba and set out become an instructor, she became a certified Zumba instructor in spring 2012. She loves to share her passion for dance and loves the energy of her group fitness participants. In the future Kiana would like to pursue a career in neonatal nursing and continue her enthusiasm for not only dance but also baking! | |
| Alicia completed the SIUe in-house group fitness instructor certification in Fall 2009. She loves seeing people have fun while they workout! Alicia is currently a junior majoring in Special Education. After graduation she plans on becoming a special education teaching while also teaching fitness on the side. | Kendall | Kendall is a SIUe alum whose motto is Fitness is a lifestyle! With her love and enthusiasm for fitness she found herself taking lots of group fitness classes and eventually she became Spinning Certified to share her passion. She enjoys watching her participants set goals they never thought were possible and achieving them. Kendall has some awesome goals of her own as she is training for her first half ironman this fall! | |
| Jeremy | Jeremy has been teaching yoga for many years and has recently completed a 200 hour yoga instructing certification. He enjoys meeting new people and sharing his passion for yoga with others. |
Ryan | Ryan is a tried and true group fitness advocate. Ryan began attending Group Fitness classes two years ago and along with his hard work ethic, he has managed to lose 200 pounds and maintained his weight loss. Ryan is a sophomore accounting major and became Spinning Certified in the Fall 2011. His future plans include graduating from SIUe and going on to pursue Public Accounting and teaching Spinning for the rest of his life. He also aspires to become a personal trainer. Ryan loves the competitive atmosphere group fitness provides and also likes that it is always fresh, exciting and fun. |

Emily | Emily completed the In-House Group Fitness Instructor Training and is Spinning Certified. She is currently a Junior studying Nursing and would one day like to be a Pediatric Nurse. |
Nicole | Nicole Kiel is new to the Spinning team. She is Spinning Certified and will push you to the max in her workouts. By day she is a nurse in the ICU and by night she is a Spin Doctor. Nicole loves getting to meet new people and help them reach their fitness goals. |

Hope | Hope is a freshman studying Nursing and completed the In-House Group Fitness Instructor Training. Hope loves the group atmosphere and making workouts fun and that is exactly what you will have in her new class Just Dance! In the future she would like to continue instructing and eventually become a nurse practitioner. She would also like to explore the possibility of combining her future career with her love for fitness. | Siu | Sui Chen is a graduate student who completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012. Siu really enjoys sharing his knowledge with people who are enthusiastic about his same interests. He became interested in group fitness because he wanted a way to release his energy! A little fun fact about Sui is that he can speak a mix of British and Australian English with a Chinese accent. His favorite quote is "rainbows come after heavy thunderstorms." |

Michael | Michael Chiapetto is an undergrad student studying biomedical sciences. He completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently NETA Group Fitness certified. He believes group fitness is great way to stay active in a social atmosphere. Michael always wanted to become a group fitness instructor and was happy to find the ACE class provide by SIUE campus recreation. A fun fact about Michael is that he has two different colored eyes and one of his eyes has two different colors in it!! “Every truly great accomplishment is at first impossible” is his favorite quote! |
Lauren | Lauren Blanken is an undergrad student studying exercise science with a minor in health education. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Spinning certified. Lauren loves the energy and motivation that is brought to each class. She believes that group fitness classes are fun and not boring. She became involved with group fitness because she loved all the SIUE classes and wanted to share her passion with others. Lauren loves to box and her favorite quote is “do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). |

Kristie | Kristie Chase is studying exercise science with a health education minor. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently NETA Group Fitness and YogaFit certified. Kristie really enjoys the atmosphere of group fitness as well as challenging her body in different classes to become a stronger person. She became involved with group fitness by taking a lot of different classes at SIUE. She is super into photography and her favorite quote is “you are your own limitation.” |
Katie | Katie Birdsall is a graduate student studying Public Administration. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Spinning and NETA Group Fitness certified. Spinning was a workout that she enjoyed doing that kept her active; she wanted to become an instructor for a class she loved! Katie really enjoys the social atmosphere that group fitness provides. Believe it or not, Katie drinks about three gallons of milk a week!! Her favorite quote is “You had me at Hello” (Jerry McGuire). |

Erin | Erin Narby is a graduate student studying kinesiology with an exercise physiology specialization. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Pi-Yo Strength and NETA Group Fitness certified. Erin loves getting a good workout with friends, while meeting other individuals along the way! She believes that group fitness is a great start for individuals who don’t know how to exercise but want to learn! Erin first became involved with Group Fitness when she experiences some health issues; she needed to include exercise in her daily routine but did not know where to start. She started by going to group fitness classes and thanks to a great instructor, eating right and staying fit is now a lifestyle, not a chore. She would love the chance to help people the same way she was helped by a group fitness instructor! She loves Iowa Hawkeye Football and plans on running a half-marathon in 2013! Her favorite quote is “the miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start” (John Bingham). |
Danielle | Danielle Zachman is an undergrad student. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Spinning certified. Danielle loves the comradery between the fitness instructors and the participants. Everyone is so friendly and willing to talk to you. It feels like a little family when you are so far from your own. She became involved with group fitness because she loves to exercise; it helps her relieve stress and she loves becoming mentally and physically stronger! She LOVES Batman!! Her favorite quote is by Albery Einstein, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, he will live its whole life believing it is stupid.” |

Daniel | Daniel Frias is a ABS Nursing Student. He completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently Spinning certified. He really enjoys the atmosphere of group fitness; the people in class have such energy that other people are able to feed from it and find strength that they didn’t know they had! He started off as a group fitness intern at the University of Illinois. When he started school at SIUE, Daniel decided to pursue group fitness! He is training for the Illinois marathon in April and the Chicago marathon next fall! His favorite quote is “be the change you want to see in the world” (Ghandi). |
Taylor | Taylor Nick is an undergrad exercise science major. She completed the SIUE ACE in house training program in the Fall of 2012 and is currently NETA Group Fitness and HIIT certified. Taylor really enjoys the social aspect of group fitness; it is a great and different workout. When the opportunity to become a group fitness instructor came about, Taylor took it and has loved every part of it! Her favorite quote is “never give up on something you really want. It won’t be easy getting it, but it will be worth it.” |
